This post is a continuation of creating publication quality figures. As you might imagine, the process of creating figures using matlab2tikz is not always as smooth as in the case of simple figures. I have come across a few bugs, and here I will try to present simple workarounds for most cases.
One of the most annoying parts of writing publishable research material is making figures. Although it may seem rather simple to make a figures from, say, a spreadsheet program, systematic generation of high-quality figures is not that easy. I decided to write this post as a guide to my fellow lab members, and thought it may be useful to other researchers as well. The system described here is mainly based on the excellent matlab2tikz package.
Les frères de Delph’, originaires de Lyon, sont de grands fans de l’OL. Bien naturellement, elle a choisi de se déclarer supportrice de Saint-Étienne (parce que …) et s’est engagée dans une guerre de longue date, qui atteint son apogée chaque année au moment de Noël. Il y a quelques années, elle leur a offert des drapeaux de Saint-Étienne. En représaille, ils l’ont fait couché des draps OL. L’année suivante, elle a donc décoré leurs chambre tout en vert. Et pour prendre leur revanche, ils lui ont acheté une action de l’OL. Cette dernière prouesse a eu le mérite de calmer les hostilités pour quelques années.
Last weekend, one of my friends and I found ourselves waiting near the exit of dressing rooms in a busy London clothes shop. In that shop, anyone going in the dressing rooms was given a small plastic panel with a number corresponding to the number of articles of clothing she wanted to test. Each customer was only allowed to bring 6 articles inside. At the exit, an employee takes the small piece of plastic back, along with all unwanted items which will then be put back on shelves and racks inside the store.
À chaque élection, la question des sondages, et de la confiance qu’il faut leur accorder est une des questions centrale. Nous savons qu’il peuvent se tromper, et nous avons en tête le chiffre des 3% pour un échantillon de 1000 individus, d’après un article paru dans le monde. Mais d’où vient ce chiffre, et que dire des échantillons de 500 (comme dans les sondages faits juste après le débat) ou moins (par exemple ceux portant sur les reports de voix).
